Kalvin Phillips West Ham debut news shared amid ‘major coup’ for David Moyes

Kalvin Phillips will be available to make his West Ham debut against Bournemouth on 1 February after a loan move has been agreed with Manchester City, according to Malik Ouzia.

Writing on The Standard website on Tuesday (23 January), the journalist said the deal is a “major coup” for David Moyes as he has “long been an admirer” of the England international.

He added that his newspaper understands the Hammers have struck an agreement with the Premier League champions that includes an option-to-buy clause on the 28-year-old midfielder.

Exciting

This is very exciting news for all those associated with West Ham as Phillips looks to be on the verge of joining the club on an initial loan deal.

While late twists are always possible and transfers can fall through, it appears as though the midfielder is keen to make the switch so there shouldn’t be any issues.

It would be interesting to know how much the option-to-buy clause is as Man City are likely to want to recoup the majority of the £42million they paid Leeds United to sign him in 2022.

West Ham

Although he hasn’t played much for the Citizens over the past 18 months, he will still have learned plenty purely from working under Pep Guardiola.

It speaks volumes that he has remained a key part of England manager Gareth Southgate’s plans during that time and he should be an excellent addition to our squad.
