Kalvin Phillips ready to join West Ham United as transfer news drops on Monday

Kalvin Phillips has opted to join West Ham despite interest from elsewhere and will complete the loan switch from Manchester City shortly, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist shared via his Patreon page [22 January] that the Hammers will pay his wages and a bonus, as they think it is worth the money to chase a strong finish to the season.

David Moyes has reportedly been after Phillips for years after trying to sign him from Leeds United two years ago and now looks set to land his man with the midfielder desperate for game time.

A fantastic coup for West Ham

Given the level of interest in Phillips’ signature, including from European giants such as Juventus and Barcelona, the decision to move to the London Stadium should be seen as a huge coup from Moyes and his transfer team.

The decision to pay his wages in full, as well as a bonus payment, will likely have contributed to the decision after reports claimed the finances behind the deal were the main sticking point for other interested clubs.

With West Ham looking to remain competitive in the Europa League after topping their group, as well as targeting a high finish in the Premier League, the acquisition of Phillips in January will prove a big step towards achieving those goals.

The Hammers will be getting somebody with trophy-winning experience after being involved in Manchester City’s treble-winning season, although with much of that involvement from the bench, is not the type of player you can afford to say no to.

West Ham

If West Ham want to secure further silverware this season, with the Europa League very much on the cards, this type of quality and experience could prove vital.
