Juric announces Southampton exit for West Ham

Southampton manager Ivan Juric has revealed that Maxwel Cornet is set to return to West Ham.

The Ivory Coast international joined the Saints on loan in the summer but has failed to have a positive impact, featuring in just 71 minutes across two appearances.

With the January transfer window now open, Juric has revealed in his press conference, shared via SaintsExtra on X (2 January) that the 28-year-old is set to return to the London Stadium.

He said: “Yes, that’s the idea, for him to go back to West Ham.”

Maxwel Cornet to return to West Ham from Southampton

The ex-Lyon man looked to be a real coup for the Irons after a terrific debut season in the Premier League with Burnley.

Cornet scored a selection of terrific goals for the Clarets but opted to move away when their relegation to the Championship was confirmed.

It is safe to say that things have not gone well for the versatile forward since moving to East London, which culminated in him departing on loan in the summer.

This negative trend has continued on this temporary switch to the South Coast with neither Russell Martin nor Juric showing faith in the Ivorian.

Now a return to E20 has been revealed by the Saints boss, it feels like Cornet’s time with the Irons is set to come to an end.

Julen Lopetegui may be able to find some use for the former Metz man but after such a poor season to date, that appears to be unlikely.

In other West Ham news, agents have been contacted for the loan of a striker who wants to play in London.
