Julen Lopetegui makes Tariq Lamptey transfer demand to David Sullivan at West Ham United

Julen Lopetegui wants West Ham United to sign Tariq Lamptey as the defender looks to leave Brighton, according to Caught Offside.

The new outlet reports [12 November] that the 24-year-old is unhappy with his current situation at the Seagulls under new manager Fabian Hurzeler.

With the Ghana international’s current contract expiring at the end of the season, he has shown no indication of extending it, and Lopetegui wants signings from David Sullivan if he is not sacked.

West Ham United don’t need Tariq Lamptey

Lamptey has established himself as one of the better full-backs in the Premier League since moving to East Sussex from Chelsea.

Over the years, the Ghanaian has been a key player for Brighton as they’ve gone on to catch the eye of several people for the way they’ve played and operated.

But Lamptey has found game time hard to come by this season under Hurzeler, with the defender featuring just once in the league for the Seagulls.

West Ham signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United in the summer, and the 26-year-old has been one of the Hammers’ best players under Lopetegui.

It seems surprising that Lopetegui would want to bring another right-back, considering how good Wan-Bissaka has been for the Irons in the current campaign.

What can’t be denied is the fact that Lamptey is a decent player, and potentially getting him on a free transfer could be a great deal, although it remains to be seen whether Sullivan will heed the Spanish manager’s demands, who is himself on thin ice at the club after a poor start to the season.
