Julen Lopetegui has the advantage as West Ham United work to close Carlos Soler deal

Fabrizio Romano has shared that he still thinks West Ham United could strike a deal for Carlos Soler before 30 August.

The journalist was speaking to GiveMeSport on 25 August and outlined that contacts between the player and club are still “very good”.

Romano also stated that Julen Lopetegui also gives the Hammers an advantage as he’s Spanish like Soler.

“I still think that West Ham will advance on the Soler deal because contacts are going very well on the player’s side,” Romano said.

“Contacts are also ongoing with Paris Saint-Germain, so despite the reports of other clubs, I’m told that West Ham are also a priority for the player.

“The manager, Julen Lopetegui, makes the difference. He’s Spanish, like Soler, so he’s talking to the player and this is why they have an advantage on this story.”

Carlos Soler to West Ham United makes a lot of sense

Of all the Premier League teams, it feels as if the Hammers have made the most changes to actually help improve their squad.

Following their performances across the campaign last season, it was evident that their defensive line needed bolstering.

Hence why the additions of both Jean Clair-Todibo [HITC, 10 August] and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are two of the most talked about deals of the transfer window.

The Hammers also welcomed Max Kilman to their ranks who has helped further shore up Lopetegui’s defence.

Guido Rodriguez is the only midfielder that has been added to the club’s ranks thus far. The Argentina international was brought in as the Kalvin Phillips replacement and slotted into the team perfectly.

This has left the club strong defensively but a little weaker in terms of attacking midfielders. Indeed, Lucas Paqueta and Tomas Soucek are both very attack-minded players but, the addition of Soler could help ease the burden upon their shoulders.

It would also offer other ways of lining up the team and perhaps allow for more players to get rested if and when needed.

Only time will tell if a deal is struck, but, if it does get finalised, there’s no doubt that he would be a welcome addition.
