Journalist slams Declan Rice’s advisors amid £100m West Ham report
Telegraph journalist Dan Silver has hit out at Declan Rice’s advisors after a report claiming the 22-year-old West Ham midfielder is unhappy with his price tag.
Silver’s colleague, Matt Law, published a report on the Telegraph website on Saturday afternoon [21/08/21] in which it was claimed that Rice is aggrieved at West Ham’s £100million valuation of him.
Responding via his personal Twitter profile, Silver said: “Whether instigated by suitors or agents these attempts to drive down Rice’s price are pathetic. Frankly, it’s not West Ham’s responsibility to improve other clubs’ bottom lines. Chelsea, Man United and the rest need to put their money where their mouths are or pipe down.”
In a further tweet, he added: “He will be gone by the start of next season and I won’t begrudge him.
“But just because he’s as narked as the rest of us doesn’t mean we should slash his asking price to save Chelsea’s bank balance.”
Silver also wrote: “If Dec’s advisors kept quiet, he’d get his move next summer and leave a hero. Instead, there’s now a real possibility it gets unpleasant.”
2022 summer saga?
It looks certain that Rice will remain a West Ham player for the 2021/22 campaign, but fears are already beginning to emerge that he is destined for an Irons exit next summer.
The England international has been linked with a move to his former academy club Chelsea for a number of years now, while the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United have also been touted as possible destinations with glaring holes in their defensive midfield positions.
The recent European Championship only exacerbated the belief that he is set to join a so-called ‘elite’ side in the near future.
There has always been the feeling that his departure would be accepted by fans and figures at the club if the Irons are not competing for the European spots.
Somone of his ability deserves to be playing Champions League football.
But we can’t be held to ransom over his exit.
West Ham clearly have a price in mind and do not want to be swayed from it too much.
In modern times, is £100million that excessive for an English player of his abilities?
