Journalist shares why Chelsea considering selling Ian Maatsen amid West Ham United interest
Chelsea are only considering selling Ian Maatsen to bring in some more money amid interest from West Ham in signing him, according to Paul Brown.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (6 December), the former Daily Star journalist said people are “quite surprised” that the Blues are thinking about letting the 21-year-old leave Stamford Bridge.
But he believes the Dutch left-back would be a “really good fit” for the Hammers as they look to add to their squad in the January transfer window.

“Maatsen is a really good player,” said Brown. “I can see this being a really good fit for West Ham. I’m not surprised they’re interested. I think he’s very underrated and a player that Chelsea have only considered selling because they see it as a good way to bring some money in basically.
“I think he’s very highly-rated inside the club and I think he would do a really good job for West Ham if he was to go there. He’s certainly good enough to be starting every week in the Premier League.
“I think some people are quite surprised that Chelsea would even consider letting him go. But if West Ham can do this one, I think it would be a good deal.”
Get it done
This is a deal that has been spoken about for quite some time after West Ham were heavily linked with Maatsen during the summer.
The Hammers have been trying to bring in another option at left-back after Aaron Cresswell made it clear previously that he wanted to leave the club.
But their pursuit of Maatsen didn’t progress too far and he ended up staying at Chelsea, where his chances in the first team have been extremely limited this season.

The Blues will be keen to offload a couple of players in January as they will need to balance the books following their heavy spending spree.
That is where the Irons could look to take advantage of the Dutchman’s situation as he fits the profile of the kind of player the club are looking to bring in.
In other West Ham news, a Hammers star has predicted Tottenham to do something “special” this season.
