Journalist shares what he has been told about West Ham United transfer links to Matteo Guendouzi

West Ham have got no interest in signing former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi from Marseille before the transfer window closes, says Jonty Colman.

Guendouzi has been linked with a return to the Premier League after shining for the Ligue 1 club over the last two seasons, with Aston Villa and West Ham among the suitors for his signature.

However according to journalist Colman, who writes for Football.London, there is no truth to links with the France international and he won’t be moving to the London Stadium this month.

“Also understand that there is nothing in the links with Matteo Guendouzi,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (29 January).

No shock

Guendouzi struggled to make any sort of impact during his spell at Arsenal the first time round in England, but he has greatly improved as a player since moving to Marseille.

He has emerged as a progressive midfielder with great battling techniques, something that would fit in really well with what David Moyes has been trying to build at the London Stadium in recent years.

West Ham

But Marseille are likely to demand a relatively big fee considering his importance to their side now, and the fact that Unai Emery is said to be keen on bringing him back to England again is probably not great for West Ham either.

Emery was the man who signed Guendouzi for Arsenal and gave him an opportunity to shine, and they have retained a good relationship.

As a player that Gary Neville once labelled as “fantastic”, Guendouzi would certainly improve our team if he were to join in January but it doesn’t look like something that will be happening any time soon, although transfers can’t be ruled out entirely just yet.
