Journalist moots West Ham United transfer for Valencia captain Jose Gaya, ‘pretty good chance’
Valencia captain Jose Gaya is currently being scouted by West Ham as the club look to sign a new left-back, according to Dean Jones.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (25 October), the former Eurosport journalist said the Spanish international is one of the players the Hammers are “checking out”.
He added that there’s a “pretty good chance” that the Irons continue to bring in new additions and that left-back is one of the positions they will be looking at amid their interest in bringing the 28-year-old to the London Stadium.

“Yeah, he’s obviously being scouted right now so he’s one of the players that they’re just checking out,” said Jones. “We know what West Ham are like when it comes to finding players. They cast the net far and wide and that’s what they’ll be doing now as they look for a new left back.
“I do think there’s a pretty good chance that they do continue to recruit and this is one of the positions that they’ll be looking at.”
Unlikely
This seems like a transfer that is incredibly unlikely to happen because Gaya is from the Valencia area and has been at the club since he was nine years old.
The left-back is now the La Liga outfit’s captain and has made 334 appearances during his time at the Mestalla Stadium.
After previously being regarded as a promising young talent and featuring 21 times for Spain, he has been linked with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs over the years.

That is why it just doesn’t seem plausible that he would make a dramatic switch to East London after all these years at Valencia to compete for a place at left-back with Emerson and Aaron Cresswell.
The latter, however, does seem likely to move on from the London Stadium before too long, so a new left-back will be needed but it surely won’t be Gaya.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a forward dubbed “incredible” by Neymar as his club want to sell him.
