Journalist makes ‘unforgettable’ West Ham United prediction after Kalvin Phillips transfer
West Ham are only one or two players away from having an unforgettable season, according to journalist Alex Keble.
The prediction comes after the Hammers confirmed the loan signature of midfielder Kalvin Phillips [official West Ham website, 26 January].
The England international has arrived for the remainder of the season from fellow Premier League club Manchester City.
“West Ham are having a very, very good season – and are only a player or two away from it being an unforgettable one,” Keble wrote for the official Premier League website.
“David Moyes’ side are five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the potential fifth UEFA Champions League spot and have qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League, far exceeding expectations for a team supposedly weakened by Declan Rice’s departure and the demands of a Thursday-Sunday schedule.”
Exciting times
These are very exciting times to be a West Ham fan, with the London Stadium club going strong in the Premier League and in Europe.
The Hammers may be out of the FA Cup and League Cup, having been disappointingly knocked out of the former by Bristol City, but there are plenty of reasons for fans to celebrate outside of these two competitions.
The East London side currently occupy sixth place in the league table, while they are into the latter stages of the Europa League after a strong showing in the group stages.
And the signature of Phillips from Manchester City is another reason for supporters to be full of confidence, with Moyes needing talented players like the midfielder if the club are to continue their strong season.
James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez are all shining in that area, but even they will welcome further support from Phillips.
