Journalist makes ‘pretty unexpected’ claim about West Ham pursuit of Mohammed Kudus

West Ham target Mohammed Kudus still being on the market at this stage is “pretty unexpected,” according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Hammers are interested in signing the 23-year-old Ajax midfielder with the club’s sporting director Tim Steidten travelling to Amsterdam to discuss a potential transfer, as reported via Twitter by FootMercato journalist, Santi Aouna (17 August).

Kudus could arrive as a replacement for Brazil international midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is subject to interest from last season’s Premier League champions Manchester City.

And Jones is surprised that the Ghana international midfielder is still available at this stage in the summer transfer window.

“Kudus is brilliant and someone that West Ham are considering as a result of him still being on the market,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT (16 August).

“I think that was pretty unexpected, at this stage. He’s a very good player that continues to shine at Ajax. He’s remarkably relaxed and cool in possession. He can make things happen that are exciting.”

Promising

Jones’ comments will leave supporters at the London Stadium feeling excited about what Kudus could bring to the club and to the Premier League. It will have fans even more hopeful that an agreement can be reached for the transfer of the 23-year-old.

Replacing Paqueta with a like-for-like positional player who is also dangerous on the ball, as well as being a couple of years younger and much cheaper could be viewed as a stroke of genius further down the line if all goes to plan.

And the stats suggest that Jones is not wrong to make the claims he has about Kudus. The young attacking-midfield player had a brilliant season in Amsterdam last year, scoring 18 times while providing seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

All eyes will now be on the board at West Ham to see what they can get done with time running out in the transfer market.

In other West Ham news, another club are waiting for a higher bid from the Hammers for their attacking player.
