Joel Piroe's contract examined after West Ham loan: Wages, duration and amortisation

Joel Piroe has made a positive start to life on loan at West Ham United.

The Suriname international came in to bolster the Hammers forward line for a season in the Championship.

Having consistently scored second tier goals over the years, it was a move that made total sense.

A move may not have gone down that well with fans in E20, but that was largely due to the hope of signing Troy Parrott instead.

The Leeds United loanee has gone on to prove himself as his three goals and overall performances have benefitted the Irons.

There is every reason to suggest West Ham would be paying his full salary which reportedly sits at £45,000-per-week or £2.3million yearly.

The forward is currently at the London Stadium on loan with the hope of securing promotion.

Should he help to achieve that goal, it will see a permanent move to the Irons be sealed.

West Ham have reportedly agreed to pay £15m next summer after his initial temporary move.

Should he seal that move, the amortisation payments will ultimately hinge on the length of his contract.

A three year move would equate to roughly £5m-per-year, four years at £3.75m or five years at £3m.

It pays to tie Piroe down to a longer deal, but it will ultimately hinge on what division the Hammers find themselves in next season.
