Joel Matip to decide on West Ham United transfer as offers and demands made
Joel Matip is “favouring” a move to England amid interest from West Ham United, according to Sunday People.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (15 September, page 51) that free agent Matip, 33, is demanding a two-year contract at his next club after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.
It is understood that the Hammers, Fulham, Bournemouth and Bayer Leverkusen are keen on a deal for the Cameroonian centre-back, who is now weighing up offers from the Premier League and overseas.
What will Joel Matip bring to West Ham?
The East London side seem to sit in pole position to sign the free agent, which could bring a wealth of experience to the London Stadium.
Matip is a serial winner and lifted six trophies during his time on Merseyside, which could prove a massive coup for Lopetegui’s rebuilt Hammers side.
The Irons’ depth in defence has been a cause for concern, with a free agent signing perhaps being their only option for the time being.
The 33-year-old may not be the Spanish manager’s first choice, but his experience speaks for itself, and could be a great backup for any defenders who pick up an injury.

It is likely that the West Ham boss will opt for Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos as centre-backs, with both players starting the previous two Premier League matches.
Matip will be chomping at the bit to get involved, and will also face competition with new signing Jean-Clair Todibo.
Bournemouth and Fulham also seem keen on the defender, so Lopetegui will be eager to seal the deal before the next match against Chelsea.
