Jhon Duran transfer latest as Claret & Hugh share update on West Ham United bid
West Ham United have tried and failed to sign Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran, according to Claret & Hugh.
The Hammers news outlet reported on Monday (13 January) that Graham Potter’s side tried to bring the Colombian to the London Stadium but were outbid by Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Amid reports via Graeme Bailey (13 January) that West Ham submitted a £30million offer for Duran, the Irons insider claims the bid was indeed closer to the £50m bracket, which is described as “enormous”.
Aston Villa are refusing to budge on their valuation, with increasing interest in the forward, which is now believed to be £80m after his sensational exploits in the Premier League this season.
West Ham United will not sign Jhon Duran
David Sullivan and Tim Steidten, a round of applause for the West Ham duo – they have dropped the ball tremendously on this one.
The Irons haggled with Aston Villa all summer, offering just short of the then £40m asking price for Duran [Fabrizio Romano], twelve goals later, he could be leaving Villa Park for nearly double the original valuation.
Instead, 31-year-old Niclas Fullkrug arrived in East London, and while the Champions League finalist appeared an astute signing, he returns to the sidelines as his injury-plagued tenure continues.
In hindsight, the few million that the Irons refused to cough up could be seen as one of the biggest transfer misfires in recent history.
Furthermore, Steidten’s frivolous summer spending spree has led to tight financial constraints at the London Stadium as fears surrounding PSR prevented the Hammers from increasing their offer for Duran.

With that in mind, Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has emerged as a more realistic target for Potter [GiveMeSport], albeit, massively underwhelming compared to Duran.
While West Ham’s ambition in the transfer market is a positive sign for supporters, another failed attempt for Duran will only further aggravate a disgruntled fanbase still reeling from the Julen Lopetegui era.
Should the Hammers sign Calvert-Lewin as Duran leaves for the Champions League, the first thing Sullivan should do is boot Steidten out the door.
