Jeff Stelling names forward West Ham United could land next after Niclas Fullkrug
Jeff Stelling has suggested that West Ham United are still in the hunt to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa after landing Niclas Fullkrug.
Following Fullkrug’s arrival, some wondered what else the Hammers had in their locker. As it turns out, there could still be a lot left to see.
Speaking on talkSPORT [6 August, 07:38], Stelling spoke highly of what West Ham have been able to do so far this summer. In addition, he also name-dropped another potential forward target.
“As well as Fullkrug, they’ve signed Max Kilman and Crysencio Summerville – £110million so far this window, second only to Aston Villa, and they might not be done yet because I understand they’re still interested in Jhon Duran as well. That’s despite signing Fullkrug.”
This comes after his fellow talkSPORT presenter Jim White lauded West Ham for the business they’ve done so far.
Jhon Duran to West Ham United still possible
While he may have only started 23 league games for Aston Villa in 2023/24, Duran made the most of his minutes.
In addition to scoring five goals, he also served as a real physical presence up top. He was powerful, comfortable off the ball, and willing to make the runs necessary to get Villa moving in the final third.
For West Ham, that sounds like the ideal striker. Yes, Fullkrug can help them in quite a few of those departments, but Duran brings a different kind of energy.
Plus, at Villa, he’s unlikely to find his way into the starting XI too much during the campaign. Ollie Watkins is their main man and while they have strength in depth, it doesn’t feel like Duran is one of Unai Emery’s favourites.
There’s no denying that the club are spending big money right now. Alas, if Julen Lopetegui thinks it’s worth going all in, it may be a good idea to trust him.
