Jean-Philippe Mateta doubts emerge as West Ham could seal transfer
West Ham United have emerged as one of the contenders to sign Crystal Palace centre-forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to TBR Football.
The news outlet reports (5 February) that the Hammers are monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation as doubts about his future at Selhurst Park have emerged.
Mateta is yet to sign a new contract at the Eagles, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2027.
West Ham United to pursue Jean-Philippe Mateta transfer?
The number nine position has been tricky for the Irons to find a solution for in recent transfer windows, with the likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Danny Ings underwhelming.
Michail Antonio has been the East London club’s first-choice striker for many years, but with his age and the recent car accident, they need to find a replacement soon.
While Tim Steidten, who has now been relieved of his duties at the Hammers, arguably did well in convincing Fullkrug to sign for them, the German forward has been a failure.
West Ham signed Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton in the winter transfer window, but it remains to be seen whether they can push for a permanent transfer next summer.
The Ireland international will undoubtedly add much-needed quality to the Irons’ attack as they look to end the season on a high note.

Graham Potter has struggled to bring the best out of the East London club since his arrival, but the English manager hasn’t been helped by the injury issues in the squad.
The former Brighton boss has recently had to play Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus in the number nine position.
Mateta has scored 10 Premier League goals this season so far and could seemingly be an excellent option for the Hammers come next summer.
In other West Ham news, Fullkrug is back playing after his latest injury development.
