Jean-Clair Todibo twist: Marseille make enquiry as West Ham player stance shared

Marseille enquired about Jean-Clair Todibo’s availability this transfer window but he is likely to stay at West Ham, according to Roshane Thomas.

The Athletic journalist reported [23 January] that sources with knowledge of the situation said the Hammers defender informed his representatives of his happiness in East London.

It is understood that the Ligue 1 club have a long-standing interest in the 25-year-old centre-back, but with Todibo not interested in leaving, Graham Potter awaits the player to return from injury.

It is crazy to see the defender already being linked with a move away from the London Stadium, even before the Hammers have paid the £34million at the end of his loan spell [BBC Sport].

It just goes to show what kind of talent Potter will have at his disposal once the Frenchman returns from injury despite a rocky start to life in East London.

With over a century of appearances for Nice before switching to the Premier League, there is no reason why the 25-year-old cannot become an integral part of West Ham’s team.

Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos have been ripped apart by supporters and media alike in recent weeks, with the Hammers leaking goals in all competitions.

Once he gets back to full fitness, Todibo has a real chance to showcase his leadership skills which earned him a move to the Premier League in the first place, and why so many teams have been interested in his signature.

After just eight league starts, it is far too early to say how well he has transitioned to the English top tier, but once he settles in properly and gets a run of games, then it will be time to judge him.

The new head coach needs someone to step up and push the Irons in a new direction, and many fans will be hoping that Todibo is that player, leading by example and out from the back.

In other West Ham news, Paris Saint-Germain need the Hammers’ help to “unblock” a transfer.
