Jean-Clair Todibo could follow Max Kilman to West Ham in strong Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd update
Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma both have “strong interest” from multiple destinations and both could be sold by West Ham this summer, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News on 5 July the journalist indicated that the soon-to-be-confirmed Max Kilman signing may not be the last centre-back deal done at the London Stadium this summer.
A move for Jean-Clair Todibo could still be done in addition if one or both of Aguerd and Zouma leave the club, with European and Saudi Arabian sides said to be keen on deals for each, after Angelo Ogbonna left at the expiry of his contract.
The Hammers are reportedly still discussing internally whether to make an improved offer for Nice’s Todibo after having a €30million [£25.4m] bid rejected.
Sheth said: “There is strong interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia in both Nayef Aguerd and in Kurt Zouma.
“If one of those two defenders was to leave the club, even both, West Ham will want to go into the market to bring in another one.”
West Ham could add Nice ace after deal for Wolves captain
Both Zouma and Aguerd have been solid performers at times in East London but the club appear ready to move on from each of them so if they can secure transfers it has to be a positive step.
The former’s performances have suffered from a physical point of view while the latter has been inconsistent, and with as much as £40m going towards Kilman and a good deal more required if Todibo is the man to join him then recouping some fees for players who have no future at the London Stadium would help a great deal.
There have been links to the Saudi Pro League for Zouma and Aguerd for a while but no departures have yet materialised.
So if that interest is now also “strong” for rival suitors in Europe then in theory it should increase the chances of Tim Steidten negotiating sales, and for better prices.
It is the start of a new era all round at West Ham with Julen Lopetegui replacing David Moyes and a new-look defence seems likely to be a feature of this transfer window.
Having taken the initiative in the pursuit of Kilman it would be a major bonus to potentially complete a two-in and two-out manoeuvre sooner rather than later to allow attention to turn to other areas of the squad fully.
In other West Ham news, The Irons have also held talks over a deal to sign a club’s Player of the Year from their title-winning campaign.
