Jarrod Bowen 'could cause disharmony at West Ham' due to contract clause
Jarrod Bowen may inadvertently cause some squad disharmony at West Ham United, the Sun journalist Jack Rosser has suggested.
The Hammers skipper is facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League.
Everton and Aston Villa are two clubs who have been mooted with a move for the 29-year-old winger this summer.
Moving to the Toffees would, of course, see Bowen reunited with former Hammers boss David Moyes.
However, there appear more likely candidates to be sold first, with Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville seemingly destined to depart.
But there is one issue surrounding Bowen, that Rosser hinted might not sit particularly well with his team-mates.
What about Jarrod Bowen's contract could upset his West Ham team-mates?
West Ham's financial situation is not quite as dire as it might have been following relegation, with Daniel Kretinsky set to become the club's largest shareholder.
However, it is inevitable there will have to be some addressing of the books, which is like Fernandes and Summerville look certain to leave.
Bowen's situation is not quite as cut and dry, and West Ham's talisman may opt to remain and fight for promotion next season.
Additionally, Bowen does not have a clause in his contract reducing his wages now that West Ham have fallen into the second tier.
Rosser, speaking on Sky Sports' Transfer Talk podcast, questioned if those who do have reduction clauses might take umbrage with that.
He said: "All of the West Ham squad apart from Jarrod Bowen have relegation wage cut clauses, some of them up to 50 per cent.
"Jarrod Bowen doesn't, which isn't great probably for squad harmony , but it's great for West Ham fans because it means there's a bigger chance he stays."
Who could West Ham sign this summer?
While it is inevitable that some players will leave the London Stadium, West Ham are still active in trying to reshape their squad for the Championship.
Brighton defender Adam Webster has been linked with a move, and would add experience to the Hammers' backline.
Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu has also been mentioned, and he could end up being a possible replacement for Summerville should he move on in this window.
Dan Neil, soon to be a free agent when his Sunderland deal expires, has apparently been explore, though he is said to be in advanced talks with Southampton.
Whatever happens it promises to be a busy summer for the Hammers' transfer department.
