James Ward-Prowse medical update at Nottingham Forest ahead of West Ham United exit

West Ham United midfielder James Ward-Prowse will undergo his Nottingham Forest medical in the next hour, according to Rob Dorsett.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via Sky Sports News (30 August, 14:51) that the England international is set to complete his tests with the Irons’ Premier League rivals ahead of a summer loan switch.

Julen Lopetegui’s Hammers have reached an agreement in principle with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side for Ward-Prowse to head to the City Ground temporarily, with the deal understood to be a straight loan with no option to buy included [David Ornstein, 30 August].

Will James Ward-Prowse exit West Ham before transfer deadline?

While the fanbase will be divided over whether or not this is a sensible call from the Hammers, it is clear that Lopetegui doesn’t feel as though Ward-Prowse is part of his plans heading into his first season in East London.

Although the England international impressed in his first season at the London Stadium, he didn’t set the world alight and with the new additions made this summer, he doesn’t appear set to be a regular starter.

From a PSR perspective, getting the midfielder’s wages off of the books for the next season at least is a good thing for the Hammers. The last thing they would want after such an exciting transfer window would be to be hit with a point deduction.

Hopefully, no issues crop up in the medical and this deal can be agreed upon long before the deadline. It would be a massive blow to the Irons’ last-minute plans if this transfer collapsed at the eleventh hour.

Any money saved by the exit of Ward-Prowse will almost certainly be put towards new additions before the 11pm deadline tonight.
