Sources close to West Ham United target Ivan Toney hope Tottenham will make a transfer offer for the striker, according to talkSPORT.

The outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (23 July) that the England international is prepared to run his contract down with Brentford if he isn't able to complete a move away this summer.

Toney's deal with the Bees expires at the end of the season so he would be free to negotiate with a new club as a free agent, but he is still the subject of interest during this window.

While both the Hammers and clubs in the Saudi Pro League remain as potential suitors for the England international, sources close to the striker suggest he is hoping for a move to Spurs before the end of the summer.

Will Ivan Toney exit Brentford amid Tottenham and West Ham transfer links?

A move to Spurs would obviously appeal to Toney with the promise of European football on offer in North London, but it doesn't appear as though the England international is exactly desperate to make the move to West Ham.

As Julen Lopetegui puts his stamp on his playing squad this summer, he will want players who are committed and want to play for the badge and that doesn't seem to be the case with Toney based on this update.

It seems as though the 28-year-old is doing whatever it takes to try and get his move to a big club either this summer or next. While that ambition should be applauded, it may not be the best of news for the Hammers.

West Ham Julen Lopetegui
West Ham United boss Julen Lopetegui will be keen to address the club's weaknesses.

West Ham and Spurs may not be immediate rivals, but they are still London rivals and there is no love lost between the two.

It would be a shame if Lopetegui missed out on a genuine transfer target to Ange Postecoglou's side.

Hopefully, the Hammers will manage to beat the Lilywhites to the striker's signature and convert him to the right club in London.

He would certainly solve their ongoing centre-forward issue which has been a problem in years gone by.
