Inter CEO claims West Ham linked Eriksen has been transfer listed
Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta has claimed that West Ham linked Christian Eriksen has been transfer listed and will be available this January.
Earlier this month, Eurosport claimed that the Hammers were eyeing a move for the Tottenham man after he failed to make an impact at the San Siro.
Now, Inter’s CEO has confirmed that Eriksen is free to leave Milan and this could provide a major boost for the Hammers.
Marotta is quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying, “Yes, I can confirm that Christian Eriksen is on the transfer list.
“He’s gonna leave in January. He’s not functional to our plans and he had difficulty here at Inter. I think it’s right that Christian goes away to find more space”
The fact that Inter are actively trying to sell Eriksen could mean that they would be willing to cut their losses and accept a smaller fee for the 28-year-old.
The main issue with signing Eriksen would be the finances as while he may not cost a huge amount of money due to his transfer status, his wages will still be substantial.
However, the midfield is an area where the Hammers can improve as currently Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Mark Noble are the only central midfielders in the first team.
There is also no doubting the quality that the former Tottenham man possesses even though he struggled in Italy.
Eriksen was one of Spurs’ best and most consistent performers for years and he has only been away from the Premier League for 12 months so it is doubtful that he has forgotten how to perform.
If West Ham can secure Eriksen’s services for a nominal fee then bringing him to the London Stadium could be an outstanding piece of business.
It would also serve as a statement of intent from the board as they look to build on their club’s brilliant start to the Premier League campaign.
Let’s see what January brings.
In other West Ham news, John Hartson has claimed that Declan Rice could play for any Premier League side.
