It looked like the Hammers were going to sign Wout Faes from Leicester City, but the move has hit a roadblock for now.

Nuno Espirito Santo arguably needs defensive reinforcements at the Irons and the 28-year-old Belgium international has emerged as a concrete target.

There has now been a massive development around Faes, with doubts around a deal at London Stadium.

What has now happened with Wout Faes deal at West Ham

Sacha Tavolieri reported early on 1 September that West Ham had reached an agreement for Faes, with the Leicester defender set to sign a three-year contract.

The reliable transfer journalist is now suggesting that the Hammers have decided to block the deal for the Belgian defender.

The Belgium international was ready to travel for his medical after an overnight agreement with the Foxes.

However, the deal now seems to be on standby, but it's not currently completely off.

The East London club are hesitant about signing Faes as they assess other defensive options.

Why sense seems to have prevailed at London Stadium

Relying on a defender who played a part in Leicester's back-to-back relegations doesn't make sense for West Ham.

The Hammers have failed to win any of their opening three games in the Championship and are slowly starting to realise how difficult it will be to win promotion to the Premier League.

Nuno's defensive options have depleted this summer and the Irons certainly need someone capable of bringing stability at the back after their recent performances.
