Igor Jesus transfer: Botafogo sale timeline shared amid West Ham interest
Botafogo are cooling off the idea of letting Igor Jesus go during the winter transfer window amid West Ham interest and will try to keep hold of him until after the Club World Cup, Tim Vickery has said.
The Hammers are looking for attacking reinforcements this window with Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug all facing periods out injured.
The Irons have been linked with a move for Jesus who currently plays in Brazil with Botafogo and TBR Football (20 January) claimed that the East London outfit were ready to step up their pursuit.
However, South American football expert Vickery has suggested that a deal during the winter window could be off as he said live on Sky Sports News (22 January, 13:01pm): “[John] Textor has been saying all along we’re going to sell Igor Jesus to the Premier League but that position seems to have cooled a little bit.
“They’ve made some other sales and the line at the moment seems to be ‘hang on a minute, we’re going to keep Igor Jesus for the Club World Cup in June and July and sell him afterwards’.
“So if that’s the way it’s going down, West Ham are going to have to look elsewhere.”
West Ham may miss out on Igor Jesus
Graham Potter has arrived at the London Stadium knowing that there is plenty of work to be done in East London to ensure that he gets the Hammers back on track.
With the injuries in his side, there is no doubt that the Irons need to bring in attacking players who can help Potter’s side push themselves further up the table, as well as improving their performances.

The Brazilian bagged eight goals and five assists in 31 appearances across all competitions in Brazil last term showing he is a player with undoubted potential though it remains to be seen if he could transition effectively the Premier League.
You can understand the Botafogo chief’s stance from his perspective, although it is a weird time to have a U-turn that won’t be particularly helpful for interested parties.
That being said, if this is one that is cooling off then the boss needs to immediately be looking for other options as his side cannot afford to wait until the summer for a transfer that isn’t promised.
