Hertha Berlin centre-back Jordan Torunarigha would be excellent backup for West Ham United

West Ham United have made enquired for Herta Berlin defender Jordan Torunarigha according to Florian Plettenberg and the 24-year-old would be an excellent backup defensively for the Hammers.

It has been suggested by the Sky Germany journalist (via Twitter, 13 June) that the Bundesliga club are willing to let the defender go for £4.3million and that would provide David Moyes with a value option to include in his West Ham squad.

Torunarigha spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Genk where he helped the Belgium side keep five clean sheets in eight Jupiler League matches.

A move for the defender would certainly provide Moyes with some defensive depth to call upon.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a good second half of the season in Belgium after failing to make a significant impression at the Bundesliga club.

West Ham were exposed at times defensively last season, particularly near the end of the campaign and another option for Moyes to call upon could’ve been vital for the Hammers.

His contract expires in the summer of 2023 and there does look like there is a cut-price deal for Moyes to pursue should he wish to step up his interest in the defender.

The signing of Nayef Aguerd has given Moyes a first-choice centre-back to add to his ranks, but a cheaper squad player would not go a miss for the Hammers for the 2022/23 season.

West Ham fans cannot complain about the business that they have undertaken so far this summer with a loan deal for Armando Broja close to being completed and talks with Gianluca Scamacca still ongoing.

If Moyes can secure his forward targets as well as add a left-back, cover in midfield and a centre-back as a backup then the Hammers can feel confident heading into the new Premier League season.
