Guido Rodriguez twist emerges as ‘luxury’ West Ham transfer news drops

River Plate want to re-sign Guido Rodriguez amid his uncertain future at West Ham United, according to TN.

The Argentinian television channel reported via their website (23 December) that the Millionaires are eyeing the midfielder, who is out of favour under Julen Lopetegui, as a “luxury” signing.

With the Irons prepared to let the 30-year-old leave either on loan or permanently, River Plate have already begun talks over a deal.

They have a free run at signing Rodriguez as Real Betis are now “out of” negotiations.

Guido Rodriguez to leave West Ham as Julen Lopetegui union fizzles

The Hammers signed Rodriguez on a free transfer after his contract at Real Betis expired in the summer.

It is likely that Lopetegui had a say in the Argentina international’s signing, having known him from his time in Spain.

However, the union between the two is slowly fizzling out at the London Stadium, with Rodriguez’s last start coming in the 0-0 draw against Everton on 9 November.

He is, therefore, being heavily linked with a move away from West Ham ahead of the January transfer window.

A return to Real Betis was mooted for him, but that appears to be off the table now.

It remains to be seen if a return to River Plate will tempt Rodriguez, who began his senior playing career there.

River Plate paid transfer fees to sign Marcos Acuna and German Pezzella in the summer and could do the same for the midfielder.

In other West Ham news, a new Lopetegui sack update has emerged ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Southampton.
