Guido Rodriguez to sign for West Ham United as Tim Steidten agrees contract with Argentine
West Ham have a verbal agreement in place to sign Guido Rodriguez and he is expected to now join the club, Varsky Sports reports.
The Argentinian outlet reported via X on 2 August that the 30-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a contract to become the latest Hammers arrival before the start of next week.
Rodriguez is a free agent after leaving Real Betis at the end of last season and has offers from his former club and Fenerbahce [Sports Digitale, 2 August].
But the Irons contract is believed to be the best one on the table [Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, 2 August] and it appears he has already said he will take it.
West Ham on the brink of Crysencio Summerville
Tim Steidten appears to have moved quickly and decisively to land the World Cup-winner after disappointment on other midfield targets such as N’Golo Kanté.
The 30-year-old is likely to become the fifth Irons recruit of the summer after Luis Guilherme, Max Kilman and Wes Foderingham, with Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville due to beat him to the London Stadium [Sky Sports, 2 August].
With moves in the offing for Aaron Wan-Bissaka [Dharmesh Sheth, 31 July] and Niclas Fullkrug as well [Sky Sports Germany, 31 July] it is possible that Rodriguez joins the end of a much longer list.
There has been no shortage of frustration where players have opted to take other options this summer but if Steidten has responded to knock down the Whites’ asking price for Summerville and resurrect the deal [talkSPORT, 30 July] and is also set to land an experienced central midfielder on a free he deserves credit.
Striker remains the big unanswered question still after extensive negotiations between the Hammers and West Ham over top target Jhon Duran [The Athletic, 12 July].
So if Steidten can put that to bed by landing Fullkrug from Dortmund and finally wrap up Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United it would suddenly have the transfer business looking far closer to completion.
There is still some way to go for all those blocks to fall into place, and the Irons of all clubs will be aware of how deals can collapse, but in the space of a few days the recruitment department appear to have done some admirable work to turn things around.
In other West Ham news, a club has been knocked out of the race to buy a senior Irons ace thanks to the size of his contract at the London Stadium.
