Guido Rodriguez medical booked as West Ham United land another after Niclas Fullkrug
West Ham have booked a medical for Guido Rodriguez on Saturday before he signs his contract to join the club, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The Italian journalist reported via X on 2 August that the free agent midfielder’s terms had been agreed and he was ready for the tests, after a deal to join Barcelona collapsed in June.
Rodriguez, 30, is now the third player on their way to the London Stadium imminently after a deal was also struck with Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug [Florian Plettenberg, 2 August] hot on the heels of Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville [Graham Smyth, 2 August].
Former side Real Betis and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce had also made offers to the Argentinian World Cup winner [Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, 2 August] but the Irons have come through.
Crysencio Summerville also on the way in at West Ham
As the cliché goes, like the proverbial London buses Hammers fans have been waiting around for some incoming transfers and suddenly three have arrived at once.
They could not have come soon enough with time under Julen Lopetegui before the new season starts rapidly running out.
But Tim Steidten has done impressive work to get a winger, a striker and a central midfielder lined up in quick succession.
He was opening himself up to unwelcome scrutiny after a period characterised by transfer failures amid the pursuit of targets such as Youssouf Fofana, superstar N’Golo Kanté and Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.
But as long as the trio he has inbound at the London Stadium translate into impact on the pitch this term the misses will soon be forgotten.
Rodriguez did miss a significant portion of last term thanks to an injury midseason which could be of some concern, but he made 173 appearances in four and a half years with Betis so he was a regular otherwise.
And coming off his second Copa America victory with Argentina this summer it is no surprise multiple clubs want him, and on a free transfer it appears the Hammers are set to land an impressive coup.
In other West Ham news, there is now confidence of a deal for yet another Irons signing from within the Premier League.
