Guido Rodriguez contract delay emerges as West Ham United announce Niclas Fullkrug transfer
Guido Rodriguez’s contract is taking longer than expected and his unveiling could be delayed until Tuesday 6 August, according to West Ham Football.
The account, run by former Six Foot Two editor Sean Whetstone, reported via X on 5 August that the Argentina midfielder would “hopefully” sign the same day along with German striker Niclas Fullkrug.
The Irons have now announced the latter’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund but according to Whetstone Rodriguez’s own signing is “very close” but proving slightly more difficult.
He wrote: “Guido Rodríguez is taking a little bit longer to get done and is ongoing so could spill over to tomorrow.”
West Ham sign Dortmund striker after Crysencio Summerville
Tim Steidten getting the much-needed new striker through the door should be a major relief even if the 31-year-old Fullkrug hasn’t been cheap.
But he is a proven scorer who appears to have the right profile to be a success in the Premier League who hasn’t completely broken the bank at £25.6million all-in [Florian Plettenberg, 2 August].
There doesn’t appear to be a risk of Rodriguez’s arrival on a free transfer collapsing so a very encouraging trio of signings, after Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville’s successful transfer, shouldn’t be far off complete.
As a free agent who was wanted by a number of clubs [Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, 2 August] it is maybe be no surprise that the final contract is proving slightly more complicated, given the player and his agent are dictating their terms without the involvement of a selling club.
But the 30-year-old World Cup winner and the Irons had already reached a verbal agreement on terms [Varsky Sports, 2 August] and he would not have flown in for a medical without confidence the move would be completed.
So despite the delay he also looks to be on the brink of joining Julen Lopetegui’s new-look Hammers squad.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are now ready to pay the full asking price for yet another deal but it has been left in “limbo” by different issue.
