Graham Potter shares worrying admission over West Ham’s transfer plans, ‘isn’t easy to do’
Graham Potter hasn’t been shy in sharing details about West Ham and their transfer activity.
West Ham began the season with a 3-0 defeat against Sunderland, highlighting exactly what sort of issues are surrounding the London Stadium right now.
There is no getting away from the fact that fresh faces are needed in East London, having most recently brought in Mads Hermansen from Leicester City.
With that being said, there is a general lack of activity surrounding Potter and his side in the transfer market as it stands in E20.
As a result, fans have been keen to hear from the English head coach, and they have now been afforded an honest admission of what’s going on with just over a week until the window closes.

Graham Potter shares West Ham transfer latest
It can’t be underestimated how frustrating the result was on the opening day against the newly promoted side in the north east.
Martin Allen may be pleased with West Ham’s dressing room anger, but that isn’t the case for every fan who feels let down by their side right now.
This is especially the case as it appears more likely that outgoing transfers are set to be confirmed as opposed to incomings, with Edson Alvarez set to join Fenerbahce in the coming days.
With these exits, there will be added hope and expectation that signings are made before the 1 September deadline.
Despite this, Potter has confirmed in his pre-match press conference (21 August) that this may not be the case, but there is a focus on landing targets.
He said: “Well, I think the profile is one that we think about privately, to be honest, because I think that helps us in the market. We have to try to find the right players always, as I repeat, it’s about the right player, the right profile, the right person always.
“That isn’t easy to do, especially when you’ve got restrictions because of PSR, every club has. As I said last week, it’s not like we can go for Isak. We have a certain market, and that is fine.
“So, our job is to look for players that can improve us externally, and at the same time, help the players that we have here. Clearly, we have to do that, and that is where my focus is.”

West Ham transfer policy represents cause for concern
Having only signed two players for a fee this summer, the fact that no other transfer irons are in the fire is a worrying thing for supporters to hear.
There is a massive need for midfield reinforcements, especially given the true lack of pace and dynamism within that area of the pitch.
West Ham summer signings so far:
- Callum Wilson
- El Hadji Malick Diouf
- Kyle Walker-Peters
- Mads Hermansen
Bids have been lodged for Mateus Fernandes at Southampton, but that deal doesn’t appear to be progressing at this stage based on Potter’s comments.
There is little reason for excitement at the London Stadium right now, something which David Sullivan has to be aware of at this stage of the summer window.
