George Earthy set to complete West Ham United loan exit – ExWHUemployee

West Ham United gem George Earthy is set to exit the London Stadium on loan to join Bristol City, according to ExWHUemployee.

The Irons source reported via the West Ham Way on Tuesday (13 August) that the midfielder will join the Championship club temporarily, having been of interest to several top Championship clubs and teams from abroad.

Julen Lopetegui views the 20-year-old as part of his long-term plan at the London Stadium, but a temporary spell in England’s second tier is viewed as a key step in his development to become a first-team regular.

Earthy will be set to join up with former West Ham U23s manager Liam Manning at Ashton Gate in what will be his first loan away from the London Stadium.

Will George Earthy exit West Ham amid Bristol City transfer rumours?

This update has come slightly out of nowhere, but a temporary move to Bristol City feels like it will be the perfect fit for all parties involved in the deal with the new Premier League season just around the corner.

With so many new players arriving at the London Stadium this summer as a result of Lopetegui and Tim Steidten’s summer rebuild, Earthy’s minutes in East London were always going to be limited in the Premier League.

On top of that, for the first time in years the Irons don’t have European football to contend with it which means the new Hammers boss will have fewer opportunities to rest and rotate his playing squad than David Moyes did last term.

Having had a taste of first-team football under the Scotsman last term, including scoring in a win over Luton Town at the London Stadium, the attacking midfielder isn’t going to learn too much from spending a campaign sat on the Irons’ bench.

Bristol City have been looking for a new attacking midfielder from the moment the transfer window opened and their lack of options in that position should mean that Earthy will play a regular role week in and week out.
