Fresh twist in West Ham United-linked Kalvin Phillips transfer news as Juventus emerge as frontrunners

Juventus are at the top of the list to sign West Ham-linked Manchester City man Kalvin Phillips, according to Calciomercato.

The publication reported on its website on Friday (20 October) that the Manchester outfit want to loan out the midfielder.

According to The Sun (19 October), West Ham want to sign the 27-year-old England international, with Bayern Munich and Newcastle United also interested.

“Kalvin Phillips is looking for a team,” according to Calciomercato. “And Manchester City would like a loan so as not to lose sight of him.

“While a change is being studied with Lucas Paqueta and West Ham, intermediaries are also knocking on other clubs that need a top midfielder even if for six months. Juve is at the top of this list, a hypothesis that could also become relevant again in the coming weeks.”

Where to?

Phillips simply has to make an exit from the Etihad as soon as possible, with the midfielder struggling massively to land minutes under Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard has instead heavily relied upon star midfielder Rodri, with that situation not likely to change anytime soon.

Phillips hasn’t had much game time at all since his switch from Leeds United, with the player’s England spot now under threat.

Away from the national team, however, the 27-year-old should simply want to be on the pitch as much as possible at club level.

But West Ham’s reported interest is interesting given the current midfield situation at the London Stadium, with James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez shining brightly in that area.

It would be a real shame for Phillips to continue wasting away in Manchester, but it could really be a similar scenario if he was to move to East London given the strong start to the season from the Hammers.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are in the hunt to sign one Bundesliga ace, with £35million needed to seal the transfer.
