Former West Ham teammate wants Edson Alvarez at new club - What's been said?
Edson Alvarez is a wanted man away from West Ham United.
The Mexico international started the opening game of the season against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup.
It therefore looked as if he was going to play a part for the Hammers in the Championship.
Things have changed and it looks increasingly unlikely to happen this campaign.
The 28-year-old now looks set to make a move away from East London as a deal hangs in the balance.
Alvarez has now been central to discussion as an ex-West Ham man wants him elsewhere.
Carlos Soler wants to play with Edson Alvarez again
Having starred at the World Cup over the summer and in the Europa League last season, it is no surprise that the midfielder wants to go.
It would be a serious drop off for him to feature in the second tier, but a move just hasn't materialised yet.
That could soon change, but he currently remains an Irons player.
Links have emerged suggesting that Alvarez could be on his way to Real Sociedad in the very near future.
A deal may be close considering former Hammers loanee and current Sociedad star Carlos Soler has spoken out on the pending transfer.
Speaking to Spanish outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa, he said: "He's a very physical defensive midfielder who covers a lot of ground. If he comes to Real Sociedad, Edson Alvarez would help us a lot.
"He's another player for the squad who would contribute immensely."
The duo have already played 17 times together across 765 minutes and could soon add to that tally in LaLiga.
How Real Sociedad can seal Alvarez deal with West Ham
There has been recent reports that the midfielder's agent is working to push a deal over the line.
Questions still remain over how all parties can come together and make it happen.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday that the Spanish side are in contact with West Ham to reach an agreement.
Alvarez will help proceedings as personal terms will be no issue.
It will just be up to the clubs to find a fee they can agree on to allow Soler and the Mexican to link up once again.
