Florian Plettenberg shares West Ham hijack claim as Aleix Garcia update emerges

Bayer Leverkusen are close to finalising a deal for West Ham United target Aleix Garcia, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter shared via X (12 June) that the Hammers are out of the race for the Spaniard at Girona.

Julen Lopetegui’s side have no chance of hijacking a deal with Leverkusen closing in on Garcia.

Fabrizio Romano previously reported via X (12 June) that the Bundesliga champions were attempting to see off the threat from West Ham in the race for the Girona midfielder.

Julen Lopetegui misses out on Aleix Garcia at West Ham United

This will come as yet another body blow to Lopetegui.

Although the transfer window doesn’t officially open until 14 June, the Hammers have been incredibly active and are arguably one of the busiest Premier League sides at the moment.

While that will delight supporters and Lopetegui, not everything has gone to plan thus far.

After missing out on the signing of Fabricio Bruno it now looks as if they are set to miss out on another target, although a move for Garcia never appeared as advanced as it did for Bruno.

Lopetegui will feel frustrated, but it is worth considering the team they have lost out to.

Leverkusen are the current Bundesliga champions and went close to winning an unprecedented invincible treble last season.

Xabi Alonso is building something special at the club and it would be incredibly difficult for any player to turn down the opportunity to work under him right now, especially a fellow Spaniard such as Garcia.

Therefore, while it is fine to feel frustrated, there is no shame in losing this transfer race.

In other West Ham news, one player’s exit from the club is now more likely after his recent display.
