Flamengo chiefs in UK to push through Lucas Paqueta West Ham United exit – Fabrizio Romano
A board delegation from Flamengo has jetted to England to hold face-to-face talks with West Ham United over Lucas Paqueta, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported via X on Thursday (4 July) that the Brazilian club are keen to pursue a loan move for the attacking midfielder, however, a permanent exit is the more likely outcome at this stage.
Both the clubs are in contact with one another and Paqueta’s camp has been informed about the current discussions taking place between the two parties, with talks between the club and the player expected to follow afterwards.
Will Lucas Paqueta exit West Ham United in the summer transfer window at the London Stadium?
This is going to be a really interesting transfer sage to keep an eye on in the coming weeks as there are a number of reasons this deal could appeal not only to Paqueta himself but also West Ham given current circumstances.
There is a genuine fear at the London Stadium that the Brazilian international could be banned for life having been charged by the FA for breaching gambling rules and this could encourage them to sell him this summer.
If they are able to pocket a reasonable transfer fee for a player who could be almost worthless in a couple of months if found guilty, they would be stupid to let that opportunity slip through their fingers so early in the transfer window.
That money could be spent rebuilding and rejuvenating the current team under Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium as he looks to put his stamp on the playing squad left behind by David Moyes.
However, for this to happen Flamengo will have to agree to a permanent transfer rather than a loan. Whether or not they will be open to that remains to be seen but the a board delegation already in the UK, these talks could well advance quickly.
