Ferdinand urges West Ham United to sign Serhou Guirassy now in ‘massive’ January deal

After learning of the release clause in his contract, Anton Ferdinand has told West Ham they must get a deal for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy over the line in the January transfer window.

The former West Ham defender was informed of the £15million release clause [Fabrizio Romano, 24 October] in the striker’s contract as he demanded the Hammers sign him.

He did, however, comment that there are a lot of big teams looking at the forward who has scored 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga games this season, admitting the deal would be a “massive coup” for West Ham.

Ferdinand was speaking on FIVE, where he proclaimed: “There are some big teams in for this guy.

“If we were to get him, it would be a massive, massive coup. Pay it [his release clause] now.”

The Hammers should be among the suitors

While there have been several links to the Stuttgart star ahead of the January transfer window, it has become clear that the 17-goal striker is a wanted man, having proved his goalscoring form in the Bundesliga and with several clubs needing that proven forward.

The old cliche is that every club in the world are in need of a 20-goal per-season striker, and with one now on the market for such a low price relative to some club’s spending these days, West Ham would be silly to ignore the opportunity.

Given the underwhelming displays from Michail Antonio and Danny Ings so far this season, and the lack of faith in Divin Mubama, this would be a no-brainer for the Hammers to fill their void at the head of the team.

The intention for West Ham in January has been clear – they want to sign a new striker to lead the line. In Guirassy, they could have a bonafide goal-scorer which is something they have lacked for a long time. Ferdinand’s pleas should be heard, and they should get this deal done.

In other West Ham news, another new contract is now on the table.
