Fabrizio Romano: West Ham United progressing in talks for Nayef Aguerd
Fabrizio Romano says West Ham United are progressing in talks for Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd but there is no agreement yet on a deal [June 1].
The Hammers are keen to strengthen their defence this summer after suffering with lots of injuries last season throughout the campaign, and Aguerd has been identified as a primary target.
But according to Romano on his personal Twitter account there is no agreement yet and a deal rests upon the clubs, with the player having made it clear he wants to make the move.
“West Ham are progressing in negotiations with Rennes to sign Nayef Aguerd as new centre-back,” he said. “Talks ongoing with positive feelings, Aguerd wants the move – up to the clubs.
“West Ham are optimistic but still waiting to complete the agreement.”

Rumours of the transfer fee seem to be anything between £13m and £25m, but there seems to be an inevitability of this deal getting done before the season starts.
Aguerd is strong, fast, athletic and good on the ball and seems to fit in well with the profile of defender that David Moyes wants to have at the club.

He’s also a perfect age at 26 where he’s beginning to enter his prime years as a player and would fit into a nice French-speaking core at the club including Kurt Zouma, Arthur Masuaku, Said Benrahma and potentially Alphonse Areola too if he stays on.
The club are trying to get their business done nice and early to ensure they can hit the ground running in the new season, and Aguerd will be a big part of that should he manage to put pen to paper and become a Hammer officially.
