Fabrizio Romano: West Ham United on verge of agreeing deal with in-demand Daniel Rigge
Daniel Rigge is on the verge of signing a new contract at West Ham United, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing via his personal X account on Sunday afternoon (1 October), Romano reported that the 17-year-old was wanted by four Premier League clubs and two La Liga clubs in the summer.
However, it is understood that the “highly-rated talent” opted to ignore that interest and has committed himself to the Irons.
Romano now claims that the young midfielder is about to sign a “long-term deal” with the East London club.
Great news
Rigge is one of the most highly-rated prospects on the books at West Ham.
The 17-year-old has been in red-hot form in the Under-18s Premier League so far this season, scoring three goals in four appearances, including one on Saturday (30 September) in a 2-0 win over Norwich Under-18s.
The England youth international is an attack-minded midfielder who joined the Irons from Manchester City last summer.
He’s got incredible pedigree as he’s come through at Man City – arguably the best academy in the world these days – and been moulded over the course of 12 months at West Ham.
There’s no doubt that Rigge has a long way to go but the interest in him, especially from overseas, suggests there’s something special about this young man.
Romano’s update is encouraging because it shows West Ham come across as a good club to be at for young players and this bodes well going forward as we aim to see the next Declan Rice emerge in East London.
In other West Ham news, a journalist was awestruck by one Hammers star in the win over Sheffield United.
