Fabrizio Romano: West Ham in talks with Lazio over Felipe Anderson, personal terms agreed

West Ham and Lazio are locked in talks over the transfer of attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The renowned transfer guru made the claim on his personal Twitter profile on Sunday evening [04/07/21].

He wrote: “Lazio are progressing in negotiations to sign Felipe Anderson from West Ham. Talks are ongoing between the two clubs, personal terms are already agreed.”

Fee on the way?

An earlier report from Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb suggested that the Brazilian would be allowed to join the Rome-based outfit on a free transfer.

They claimed that the Irons were including a 50% sell-on clause in the deal, and that it was close to being signed and sealed.

We’re hoping that this is untrue and that the clubs are still in talks over a fee.

West Ham

Romano’s a very reliable source and his comments suggest that negotiations are still not over, so final terms are yet to be agreed.

Given the fact that we spent £36million on the 28-year-old in July 2018, in a deal that could potentially rise to £41.5million [BBC], it would be a huge embarrassment were we to go empty-handed from this deal.

The 2018 signing from Lazio made 63 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring ten goals, but nine of them came during his maiden season in 2018/19.

Granted, Anderson only has a year left on his current deal, but surely we can receive some sort of fee for his services? His star may be on the wane after a disappointing few years, but there’s still talent in those boots.

It’s the correct decision to sanction his departure from the London Stadium, given the vast array of talent in the attacking midfield areas we possess, but incurring a £36-41million loss would be catastrophic in business terms.
