Fabrizio Romano shares update on West Ham United transfer for Samu Omorodion
West Ham United are not close to agreeing a deal with Atletico Madrid for Samu Omorodion, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist provided an update on the Hammers’ pursuit of Luis Guilherme via Caught Offside (8 June), saying, “Guilherme is really close, I’d say one step away”.
He went on to share the latest on some of the club’s other reported targets, including Omorodion.
“There have been many other names mentioned in the media – Samu Omorodion, Rwan Cruz, Simon Banza – and we will see many links, but they’re not something really close now.”
Knees Up Mother Brown reported on Thursday (6 June) that the Hammers had been priced out of a move for the forward, with Atletico Madrid valuing the 20-year-old at £34million.
Samu Omorodion doesn’t look likely to join Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United
It is no secret that the Hammers need a new striker. It is an issue which has plagued the club for many seasons and prevented them from really pushing on.
Several number nines came and went during David Moyes’ time in East London, with quite a few high-profile signings going against the club.
It is a position that West Ham has never been able to get right, and with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings not getting any younger, Julen Lopetegui will be keen to bring a new striking option to the London Stadium.
However, the club mustn’t once again waste their money on a number nine destined to fail.
Omorodion is an exciting player with potential, but he is still relatively unproven at the highest level and is yet to celebrate his 21st birthday.

Therefore, spending more than £30million on him seems excessive, and as a result, it looks as if it might be back to the drawing board for Lopetegui when it comes to the pursuit of a striker.
In other West Ham news, the club are “back to square one” because of a failed transfer move.
