Fabrizio Romano shares instant update on Declan Rice future after West Ham United ECL win

Just moments after Declan Rice lifted silverware as West Ham captain, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the midfielder’s future.

Romano took to his Twitter to provide his 15.3 million followers with a crucial update on the 24-year-old’s future.

He posted on 7 June, “Fantastic night for West Ham fans… and for Declan Rice who captains his team to European trophy.

“It’s probably the best final step possible for Declan, fantastic years at the club… now ready to make his move. Arsenal, ahead of Bayern. But tonight, time to enjoy!”

If the UEFA Conference League final was to be his final game for his boyhood club, it was the perfect way to say goodbye. Rice put in a solid display in the final, receiving a match rating of 7.0, as per SofaScore.

The midfielder made three tackles, won four out of his six ground duels, and was all over the pitch for his club, making 41 touches.

West Ham Declan Rice

The last dance

It is hard to imagine that Rice would be able to top the moment he had last night in a West Ham shirt. To captain his boyhood club to a European trophy and end a 43-year-long wait for major silverware at the club is a feat that will take some effort to beat.

However, this moment also provides Rice with the perfect send-off and opportunity to move on. His consistently high level of performance over the past few seasons has led to interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe for his services.

And it now seems as if West Ham are ready to cash in on their most prized asset. If he is to move, many fans will most likely hope he makes the switch abroad, so they do not have to watch their beloved captain pull on a rival’s shirt.

Yet, from the perspective of many others, it would be fantastic to watch Rice continue to develop in England as he looks destined to potentially one day captain the national side with his best years certainly ahead of him.

In other West Ham news, pundit Gary Lineker provided an instant reaction in the aftermath of the final.
