Fabrizio Romano shares £20m Steven Bergwijn transfer update after West Ham United links
Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn will be available for £20million this summer having been a target for West Ham United in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported on Monday (13 May) that the Dutch International will be a player to watch during the summer transfer window as the Eredevisie giants attempt to navigate new financial issues.
Bergwijn remains a target for a number of Premier League clubs and while it isn’t known if the Hammers are still interested in securing his services, it could only cost £20million to take him away from the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Writing on X Romano said: “Steven Bergwijn will be one to watch in the summer due to Ajax’s financial issues. Understand Bergwijn could be available on the market for a price tag of around £20m.
“He’s still in the list of several Premier League clubs after West Ham interest in January.”
Will West Ham United move to sign Steven Bergwijn amid new Ajax issues?
The Hammers are expected to make a number of changes to their squad this summer as they begin to transition away from David Moyes’ style with Julen Lopetegui expected to succeed the Scotsman in East London.
While that could mean a host of different targets emerge before the window opens, there is still a pressing need to strengthen in the wide areas, particularly after Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma’s January exits.
Bergwijn has experience in the Premier League following his spell with Tottenham and while he hasn’t necessarily set the league alight before, he is capable of being a real difference maker and that could attract West Ham.
It should become clear sooner rather than later whether or not the Irons intend to reignite their interest but at only £20million, this could be far too good a deal for Tim Steidten and Lopetegui to let slip by.
Transfer talks have already been held between the former Real Madrid manager and those in charge at the London Stadium so you would imagine the Ducthman’s name will have been discussed.
