Fabrizio Romano provides major update on West Ham target Eddie Nketiah

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that West Ham target Eddie Nketiah is set to sign a new five-year deal with Arsenal.

The Hammers are in the market to sign a new attacking player ahead of the next campaign and were keen on making a move for the 22-year-old.

However, Romano, in a tweet, reported that the young striker, despite being approached by the Irons and three other clubs, will extend his contract with the Gunners.

“Eddie Nketiah’s new contract will be valid until June 2027. Five year deal now set to be signed, as Arsenal wanted him to stay at all costs,” he tweeted.

“Crystal Palace, West Ham and two Bundesliga clubs approached Eddie but he’s staying.”

Big loss

The news will be a devastating one for West Ham fans as Nketiah would’ve been an ideal addition on the attacking front for the London-based club in the next campaign.

The youngster made his presence felt towards the end of the season with a slew of goals, while also becoming a regular part of the starting XI at Arsenal.

He scored the same number of goals as Harry Kane in the last eight starts of the season which was great output for someone who was not a regular in the side before that phase.

The 22-year-old made 28 appearances in all competitions for the North London-based outfit during the last season, scoring ten goals and assisting once.

With him not available, West Ham manager David Moyes will now have to turn their attention towards someone else to bolster the team’s attacking unit, especially if Jarrod Bowen leaves and Antonio having fitness concerns.
