Fabrizio Romano issues ‘Be Careful’ warning as West Ham United close in on Luis Guilherme transfer

Fabrizio Romano sent West Ham a warning over their protracted transfer for Palmeiras star Luis Guilherme after a bid was submitted.

Writing on his Daily Briefing on Substack (1 June), the reliable transfer journalist reports that the Hammers are “pulling out all the stops” to get a deal for the 18-year-old winger over the line.

A bid worth £25m plus a 20% sell-on clause has been submitted, and personal terms have been agreed [Fabrizio Romano, 31 May], but after a deal for defender Fabricio Bruno collapsed [Vene Casagrande, 30 May] at the last moment Romano admitted a deal isn’t done until it’s done.

“West Ham are pulling out all the stops this summer already, and talks are advanced with Palmeiras’ brilliant 18-year-old, Luis Guilherme,” he wrote.

“In Brazil, however, you always have to be careful until the deal is sealed, even when it seems that talks are going very well.

“A deal for Fabricio Bruno was all done with the Hammers too, but it’s collapsing now because of an issue with personal terms.”

Tim Steidten working to get West Ham what they need early

The West Ham squad is likely to see big changes this summer, which means it’s vitally important to get business done early to avoid a slow start to the season.

The club are clearly being active in the market with Tim Steidten flying out to Brazil to do business, but fans understand that until a deal is done then it can’t be done and things can change.

That is what happened with Bruno already with the window not even open yet, but that hasn’t put the club off moving for Guilherme and fans should be excited.

However, having already been burned once by a Brazilian this summer fans will be smart to sit on their hands for a bit longer to avoid getting carried away.

Personal terms being sorted is a big step though, and so long as Palmeiras accept the bid then this is a shrewd bit of business by the Hammers.
