Fabrizio Romano drops new update on West Ham United signing Mazraoui
Fabrizio Romano has dropped a new update on West Ham United target Noussair Mazraoui by saying that the player has not shown a preference for West Ham over Manchester United.
Writing in his Daily Briefing on Friday (July 26) the journalist reported that the Hammers are ready to make a deal happen now, having already agreed terms with Bayern Munich for the 26-year-old.
They are still, however, negotiating personal terms with Mazraoui. United, on the other hand, need to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka before bringing in a new right-back.
Romano wrote: “Despite the rumours, I’m not aware of Noussair Mazraoui preferring a move to West Ham over Man United.
“Man United still have Wan-Bissaka and they need him to leave first in order to bring in a new right-back.
“The situation whilst I’m writing is that West Ham can make a deal happen now as they have agreed terms with Bayern, but they’re still working on the player side.”
West Ham nearly have their hands on Mazraoui
The Hammers have agreed on a £13.5million fee, plus £3 million in add-ons, for the Moroccan right-back [BBC, July 25]. Mazraoui, who made a name for himself at Ajax under Erik ten Hag and shone at the 2022 World Cup, is set to fill the gap left by Ben Johnson’s departure to Ipswich Town.
This potential signing is a testament to Lopetegui’s ambition and vision for the Hammers. Adding Mazraoui to the squad, alongside other promising signings like Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham, shows a blend of youth and experience that could hugely benefit the team next season.
While Manchester United still have their eyes on Mazraoui, their need to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka first gives West Ham the edge.

Securing Mazraoui would not only bolster the defence but also show the Hammers’ intent to compete at higher levels. Lopetegui knows exactly what he needs this summer and he is not afraid to go and get it, even if it upsets some of the biggest clubs.
