Fabrizio Romano drops Max Kilman contract update as West Ham United transfer nears

Wolves defender Max Kilman is set to sign his West Ham United contract to complete his summer transfer to the London Stadium, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via X on Friday (5 July) that the 27-year-old is close to putting pen to paper on his deal with Julen Lopetegui’s side as his £40million move from Molineux nears completion.

Reports emerged from Dharmesh Sheth [5 July] that the English centre-back had completed his medical with the Irons earlier on Friday after the two clubs had reached an agreement on Thursday [4 July] on a financial package.

Writing on X, Romano said: “Max Kilman now set to sign his contract as new West Ham player with formal steps to follow.”

Have West Ham United signed Max Kilman amid Wolves exit speculation?

For a while, this deal didn’t look like it would happen this summer as Wolves seemed very keen to keep their star defender amid growing transfer interest, but Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have managed to get their man.

The former Real Madrid manager is known to be a big admirer of the Wolves captain having worked well with him during his time at Molineux and it is understood that he was the big driving force behind getting this deal over the line.

West Ham need defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season. Throughout the entirety of last season’s campaign, they were shipping goals far too easily and that was always going to be a problem area to address this summer.

Kilman is an excellent start, but it doesn’t feel likely that he will be the only addition made by Steidten and Lopetegui as they look to completely revamp the entirety of the defence left behind by David Moyes last term.

Who those extra signings will be remains to be seen and it is unlikely that any deals for the current targets will come cheaply, but it is well known that the Hammers have money to spend in the market.
