Fabrizio Romano drops fresh Lucas Paqueta update as Flamengo open talks for West Ham United deal

Flamengo want to sign West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta on loan in the coming days, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing on his personal X account (4 July), the reliable transfer journalist reports that the Brazilian club have made an approach to the Hammers and have already informed the player’s camp about their desire to get a deal done too.

Flamengo are planning to “insist on this deal in the next days”, with West Ham’s stance on a deal currently unclear as the player faces a lengthy ban for betting charges [The Sun, 4 June].

West Ham United to let Lucas Paqueta leave for Flamengo?

Before the summer window start most people expected Paqueta to be leaving the club for Manchester City [The Athletic, 13 April] due to his £85million release clause, but then the betting charges hit and that deal collapsed [HITC, 24 May].

It left the Hammers in a position where the money they were expecting for a top star was no longer on the table, but they also may have been left in a position where the player couldn’t play with them anyway.

That has opened the door for another team to come in and potentially swoop him away, but any deal would have to suit West Ham and this could be one of those options.

The player is known to be heartbroken about the ordeal and a move away from the Premier League to a club close to his heart could work well, with the Irons recouping some of the money they’ve invested on him in the process.

The terms of the deal are going to have to make sense, but this deal most certainly is not as crazy as it seems on paper and it’s one to watch.

In other West Ham news, the club have made a decision on the chase for Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo.
