Fabrizio Romano drops Conor Gallagher update as Chelsea reject £40m West Ham United bid, want £50m+

Chelsea want at least £50m to let Conor Gallagher leave this summer after rejecting a £40m bid from West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (25 July), the reliable transfer insider is reporting that the Hammers tabled a bid worth £40m including add-ons for the England international.

But after internal discussions at Stamford Bridge the Blues re”jected their offer, and have told them they want at least £50m to sanction his exit with West Ham remaining interested in getting a deal done.

“Chelsea have rejected West Ham first bid for Conor Gallagher around £40m with add-ons,” he wrote.

“After discussing internally and also with Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea decided to reject.

“West Ham remain interested but Chelsea want at least £50m to sell Conor.”

Expensive

It’s been known for a while that Gallagher would be quite a pricey signing, but with only a few weeks to go until the new season it’s clear that West Ham need to get a move on.

We are currently the only Premier League club yet to make a first-team signing this summer, and the exit of Declan Rice means we are significantly weaker right now.

West Ham

Gallagher has got plenty of energy and is decent on the ball, while also being more than comfortable when it comes to defensive duels or in front of goal.

That sort of skillset is something that David Moyes will surely be a fan of, but at £50m it’s a lot of the budget to spend on a player who may not necessarily be included in our strongest starting lineup when everyone is fit.

There’s clearly more to come in this deal and it looks likely that West Ham will go in again with a new bid, but whether we can strike a deal or whether it’s worth the price remains to be seen.

In other West Ham news, one European giant is willing to spend £34.6m on this Hammers star.
