Fabrizio Romano confirms Thilo Kehrer closing on January exit from West Ham, deal is at final stages

West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer is close to joining Monaco with the deal at the “final stages”, Fabrizio Romano has said.

The prominent journalist posted on X (31 December) to say the move is set to happen in the January transfer window.

Kehrer has been long-linked with a move away from the London Stadium after falling down the pecking order under David Moyes this season.

“AS Monaco are closing in on deal to sign Thilo Kehrer from West Ham for January window,” Romano wrote.

“Deal at the final stages between the two clubs.”

Inevitable

It just has not happened for Kehrer since he moved to West Ham from Paris Saint-Germain back in August 2022, in a deal the Guardian reported was worth £10.1million.

The versatile defender started 25 Premier League games last season but has just four appearances off the bench this time around, amounting to just 18 minutes played in the league.

He does have three League Cup appearances and a further five in the Europa League, but the Germany international will be keen to play regular first team football given Euro 2024 takes place on home soil for him next summer.

Several clubs were linked with his signature, including Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, but it appears as though Monaco have the race for Kehrer who is now seemingly set to return to Ligue 1.

You get the sense more will follow him out of the exit door, but what will be interesting is if David Moyes brings anymore players in.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers made a plea to Ghana over Mohammed Kudus and Chris Hughton has decided.
