Fabricio Bruno could still seal West Ham United transfer after ‘Impossible’ update

Fabricio Bruno could still join West Ham United despite reports emerging that he has rejected the Hammers’ offer, according to Raisa Simplicio.

Reports have emerged suggesting the centre-back does not feel West Ham’s contract offer is convincing enough and has opted to remain at Flamengo.

Goal Brazil journalist, Simplicio admitted she was told that it is “impossible” to rule out the move still happening with the window not even open yet.

She posted on X (30 May): “Regarding Fabricio Bruno, as mentioned by Vene Casagrande, the defender refused West Ham’s offer and, at least for now, he stays at Flamengo.

“I talked to some people who warned me that the window hasn’t even opened yet and, therefore, it’s impossible to say that he won’t actually come out. But the English club’s proposal that was on the table was rejected by the player.”

Should West Ham United keep pursuing Fabricio Bruno?

It is entirely possible that one of the appeals of Bruno as a potential signing was – perhaps – the possibility of picking up an experienced central defender in his prime years on the cheap.

The reported price tag for the 28-year-old was just £15million, including add-ons, and the fact that he has never played outside of Brazil perhaps convinced the Hammers hierarchy that a lower wage proposal would be accepted.

However, it appears Bruno is not prepared to make a first career move away from his homeland without being adequately compensated by a club from the cash-rich Premier League.

If cost-effectiveness was the driving force behind this unusual choice of transfer target, it is possible West Ham will turn their attention elsewhere.

However, if Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten are genuinely convinced of the player’s talent, they will surely return with a new and improved contract offer.
